Do You Work for Outlier? Find Out Who Tracks Your Data
Are you an AI data worker? Fill up the form
Milan, 15 October 2026 — Do you work on Outlier or another AI training platform? Do you want to know what personal data a platform collects about you, and who it shares it with? Are you concerned about being tracked while you work?
New research by Reversing.Works and DIPLab identifies 16 trackers collecting personal information on Outlier and sending it to third parties. We’re inviting Outlier workers to sign up for a workshop to find out more about the trackers on their browsers, what data they collect and what their privacy rights are.
Reversing.Works and DiPLab’s new report, Surveillance at Scale: Poverty, Wages and Privacy Violations on an AI Platform, reveals the extent of personal data collection on Outlier, the AI training platform operated by Scale AI.
Our analysis identified 16 unique trackers that collected workers’ personal information and sent it to third parties. These include social media trackers, tools that monitor online activity, and services handling sensitive identity data.

Persona: Your face, your ID, your data
To register on Outlier, workers must use Persona, an identity verification service. This requires them to scan an identity document and record a video of their face. Further identity checks may be required when workers are detected in another country or for reasons that are unclear.
An external analysis of Persona’s privacy policy raises concerns about how workers’ data may be used and shared. It indicates that at least 17 third parties, including AI companies Anthropic, OpenAI and GroqCloud, participate in data processing for analysis and inference. It also raises concerns about comparisons with other databases and the potential use of identity documents for AI training.
Our analysis also identified trackers associated with tools that can record clicks, keystrokes, mouse movements and screen activity.
What does this mean for you? Your work on an AI platform may involve more than completing tasks. Your personal information can also become a resource collected and processed by companies beyond the platform itself.
Find out more about your data
We’re organising a workshop for data workers who want to understand what information AI platforms collect about them, who might receive it, and how they can exercise their data protection rights.
Do you work on Outlier or another platform and want to know more? Get in touch or sign up to hear when the workshop is announced.
We also want to hear from workers on other platforms about their experiences with tracking, identity checks and personal data collection.
Why this matters
Data workers are essential to the AI industry. They curate content, evaluate AI responses and produce the training data that helps power generative AI and other automated systems. Yet their own privacy and working conditions often remain out of sight.
The report also documents precarious earnings among surveyed Outlier workers in 12 European countries. Respondents earned an average of €1,214 per month, while one in four earned nothing during the study period.
When your income depends on a platform, challenging its data practices may feel difficult. We want to help workers understand their rights and make the data collected about them more visible.
Your data matters. You deserve to know what happens to it.
